Way Up North goes south
FRIDAY 21 SEPT. · REEPERBAHN FESTIVAL
A lot of nowadays musicians focus on creating music by making unique sounds with effects or cool gimmicks. Young dane Hjalte Ross focuses only on the songwriting, and making the songs unique in themselves. The songs of Hjalte Ross are composed on acoustic guitar and tape-recorders, but accompanied by great arrangements.
Hjalte has been working on his debut album for over a year now and is set to be released in autumn 2018. Hjalte has worked on the album with great fellow danish musicians and his debut album is recorded and produced with John Wood (Pink Floyd, John Martyn, Nick Drake, Bert Jansh).
Tundra is a band from the northern regions of Denmark playing psychedelic rock, pop and world music. The last couple of years, the band has worked intensively on creating a unique sound meanwhile composing their debut album, premiering the summer of 2018.
Formerly known as Sofie Trolde & The Bul Bul Bhang the band has toured across Denmark with energetic concerts and an inspiring sound. By changing their name, the band proclaims a new identity and musical vision.
“The core of our vision is to enrich the world with music. We write about the great existential issues such as crises of religion, fear, hatred and the love for nature. All that divides and unites us. In a world, where peoples opinions are controlled by the media and the fear of the unknown, it is so important that we, the musicians, take responsibility and spread the important message about compassion, love, respect and solicitude.“ - Sofie Trolde, leadsinger
“The concert was a crowd-puller and the 5 musicians on stage showed that this was for a good reason. With a great performance that will be remembered as one of the best concerts of Way Up North – ever.” … “An experience beyond any limit. Beautiful, grand, dramatic, passionate and no less than invigorating. There is something on its way, and it is Tundra.” - musikblogger.dk
The Florines released their debut single in December 2017. Since the release everything has skyrocketed for this Danish rock act. Release of a critically acclaimed demo EP, radio airplay and a busy tour calendar including Nibe Festival 2018. The Florines deliver melodic rock with duelling guitars soaked in fuzz effects and a rock vocal, that leads your thoughts back to the 60’s and 70’s.
WHAAAAUW! The Courettes is the garage duo sensation from Brazil and Denmark! It's savage! It's dynamic! After the blasting debut album “Here are the Courettes” (Sounds of Subterrania, Germany, 2015), the explosive single “Boom! Dynamite!” (Bachelor Records, Austria, 2016), the thrilling single “Hoodoo Hop”, a split with Powersolo (Sounds of Subterrania, Germany, 2017) and a shaking live album “alive from Tambourine Studios” (Chaputa Records, Portugal, 2017) – all of them critically acclaimed on the garage scene all around Europe - The Courettes are back with a new album, “We Are The Courettes”! And it’s gonna be a mover!!! “The thunder, lightning and velocity are all here – again and better, in new songs that keep kicking the history forward. I can’t imagine my turntable without The Courettes”, wrote thee rock n’ roll connaisseur David Fricke (Rolling Stone) for the album’s inner notes. Fuzzy wild sounds are there, loud as hell drumming also, but the band is adding some additional elements to their garage recipe: a bit of soul ballads, a handful of 60s girlie pop. Sonic quality is now stereo and overdubs like organ, piano and backing vocals were allowed – all performed by The Courettes themselves, of course! The album has already begun to receive good reviews, especially in the UK
